Reid Barton. Sculptor.

I love the adventure, the curiosity, the surprise and discovery of sculpting. It is truly a never-ending exploration. I love how shapes rise and fall and flow into each other as I look at a piece from different angles. My pieces are not an imitation of nature, but rather a creation inspired by nature.

My goal is to feel it as I sculpt it, from beginning to end and in so doing, help my viewers to feel the same – to in some way, respond to the essence of the piece. So I will try to make a loon seem peaceful and serene. A raptor, strong, fearless and intense. A startled fish scurrying.

The initial view of a piece may not have an immediate effect, but as you take time to look at its varied parts, you may see something that strikes you as beautiful. This is what I am trying to capture when I create a piece.

Thank you and enjoy your time in the Birthplace of B.C. Gallery.
